Timeline

The Timeline (/timeline) is a Gantt-style view of your farm's schedule. Each active printer gets a row, and jobs appear as blocks along a time axis. Use it to see what is scheduled, what is printing and what has finished, and to move scheduled jobs to a different time or printer by dragging them.

Opening the Timeline

Open Timeline from the Work section of the sidebar, use the keyboard shortcut g then t, or click the Scheduled stat card on the dashboard. By default the timeline page is available to the Admin, Operator and Viewer roles. The route checks the timeline page permission: a role removed from it in Settings → Access → Permissions is sent back to the dashboard.

On the Timeline, pressing n opens the upload page to add a new job.

What Appears on the Timeline

The view refreshes every 30 seconds. It shows two kinds of blocks.

Scheduled Jobs

These are jobs from the O.D.I.N. queue that have a printer and a scheduled start and end time inside the visible date range, with a status of scheduled, printing or completed. Pending jobs that have not been scheduled yet do not appear.

Prints Tracked From Printers

These are prints recorded by the printer monitors. They are placed by their actual start and end times. A print that is still running extends to the current time. They show as printing, completed or failed. Prints without a name are labelled "MQTT Print".

Users in an organization only see printers and jobs that belong to their organization, plus unassigned and shared printers.

Layout

On desktop-width screens the Timeline is a grid:

  • Rows: one per active printer, labelled with the printer's nickname or name in a fixed left column
  • Date header: one column per day, showing the weekday and date. Today is highlighted.
  • Time header: an hour label (HH:mm) every hour, over a grid of 15-minute slots
  • Now line: a red vertical line marks the current time. When the view loads, it scrolls so this line is near the center.
  • Status legend: below the grid, with colors for pending, scheduled, printing, completed and failed

Each block shows the job name and is colored by status.

If there are no printers and no jobs to show, the Timeline displays "No scheduled jobs" with a link to the Jobs page.

The toolbar above the grid has these controls:

ControlAction
Previous week (left arrow)Moves the start date back 7 days
TodayMoves the start date back to the beginning of today
Next week (right arrow)Moves the start date forward 7 days
Days shownSets the visible range to 3 days, 1 week (default) or 2 weeks

The current date range is shown next to the arrows. The arrows always move by 7 days, whichever range is selected.

Zooming

On desktop-width screens, Zoom in and Zoom out change the width of each 15-minute slot from 10 to 60 pixels, in steps of 5 pixels. The current zoom level is shown between the buttons as a percentage from 0% (most zoomed out) to 100% (most zoomed in). The default is 20%.

Moving a Job

Blocks for scheduled jobs show a grip handle and can be dragged with a mouse or by touch:

  1. Press on a scheduled job block and drag it.
  2. A highlighted preview follows the pointer and snaps to the 15-minute slot under it, on whichever printer row you are over. The preview shows the new start date and time.
  3. Release to drop it. O.D.I.N. sends the move, and a confirmation such as "Moved job to Mar 4 14:30" appears.

A press that moves less than 5 pixels counts as a click and opens the job details instead. Blocks for printing, completed and tracked prints cannot be dragged. Clicking them opens their details.

Who Can Move Jobs

Moving a job is the timeline.move action permission, granted to Operator and Admin by default and editable in Settings → Access → Permissions (Pro or higher). The server enforces the same permission, so a move from a role without it is rejected. Roles without it cannot drag blocks: clicking a scheduled block opens its details instead.

Move Rules

When you drop a job, the server checks the move before saving it:

  • Only pending or scheduled jobs can be moved.
  • The target printer must exist, and you must have access to it (it belongs to your organization or is shared).
  • The job must have a print duration. The new end time is the new start time plus that duration. A job without one is rejected with "Set an explicit quantity before manually scheduling this job".
  • The new time must not overlap another scheduled or printing job on the target printer. An overlap is rejected with "Time slot conflicts with job '...'".

A successful move sets the job's printer, start and end, and its status becomes scheduled. If the job was pinned to a specific printer, the pin moves to the printer you dropped it on.

Job Details Drawer

Clicking a block opens a details drawer on the side of the page.

Scheduled Job Details

For a job from the O.D.I.N. queue, the drawer shows:

SectionContents
HeaderJob name, status and printer
ColorsColor swatches for the job's filament colors
ScheduleStart, End and Duration of the scheduled block
Print TimeEstimated (the print time estimate recorded on the job), Actual start, Actual end and Actual duration
DetailsPriority, Filament, Due date and Match score
PricingEst. cost and Sugg. price
FailureReason and notes, for failed jobs
NotesThe job's notes

Each section and row appears only when the job has data for it. For example, Actual duration appears only once the job has both an actual start and an actual end.

Tracked Print Details

For a print recorded by a printer monitor, the drawer shows:

SectionContents
HeaderFile or job name, status and printer
ProgressA progress bar with percentage
DetailsLayer (current / total), Remaining time and Total duration
TemperaturesBed target and Nozzle target
ErrorThe printer's error code, if any

Mobile View

On narrow screens the grid is replaced by a chronological list, newest first, grouped under date headings. Each card shows:

  • the job name and printer
  • the start time and duration
  • a status badge

Tap a card to open the same details drawer. The date controls and the days selector stay available. Zoom and drag-to-move are only available in the desktop grid.

Getting Jobs onto the Timeline

Queued jobs appear on the Timeline once they have been scheduled. You can schedule them in two ways:

  • Run Scheduler on the Jobs page (shown to users who can create jobs; the server requires the Operator or Admin role). Each run:
    • assigns pending jobs that are not on hold to printers, in queue order: priority, then queue position, then age
    • places jobs in 15-minute slots over a 7-day horizon, starting from the next slot
    • avoids starting jobs inside the blackout window
    • first resets scheduled jobs whose start time passed more than two hours ago, so they can be scheduled again
  • Drag a job to a printer and time on the Timeline, as described in Moving a Job.

See Job Scheduler for how the scheduler picks printers.
